The story of a young, educated woman being deceived by a man who promised to marry her for a green card. If you have been thinking about coming to America but aren't sure if it is the right decision, you might want to read this true life story. It is a cautionary tale of what can happen when you rely on an American man for your green card and he promises to marry that woman just so she can stay in America with him. So many people fall into the same traps as the protagonist in this story does and don't even know it until they become stuck here because they got tricked by their "American husband" into believing he loved them back and would take care of them forever. The moral of the story... be careful who you trust! It was the year 1992 when I first left Pakistan to come to America on a student visa. I came here with my parents, siblings and younger brother's wife. We didn't know what would happen to us in America; we were young and innocent, but extremely excited about moving to this foreign place that promised us a bright future. It didn't even matter that we were coming here for schooling and not just because we wanted to have fun or something else. Although education was the main factor, it didn't mean that we could not enjoy ourselves at all! In fact, it was quite the opposite. We all made sure that we had a good time wherever we went whenever we had free time. Coming to America was a dream come true. It was amazing seeing all that this place had to offer. I attended the University of Southern California and got my bachelor's degree in accounting and finance and decided to continue on for an MBA because accounting and finance were not enough for me. I wanted to do more with my life than just be a certified CPA or accountant so I decided to go back to school and get an MBA so that I could have a better career, salary and work at the top of my field as opposed to as an entry level employee as I would as a CPA. I thought this would help me to get ahead in life and be able to afford a better standard of living than I could as an entry level employee at a firm. I came into the United States with the intentions of getting an education then returning home to my family where I thought I would get married to someone, have kids, buy my own home, cars and enjoy my life. I was content with this idea of how my life would turn out. If you didn't know already, many Pakistani women go abroad for education or work because their families will not let them do it back home since they are considered "too western" or not following Islamic teachings enough. But coming here made me realize that things were not exactly what they seemed... it is very tough to be a woman and stand on your own two feet in this world. As I was walking down the street, I noticed my soon to be husband walking towards me. He greeted me with a smile and we talked for a few minutes. After we talked, we exchanged phone numbers and email addresses. We said our goodbyes and each went on our way home. This is where the true horror story begins… You see, I had always been very cautious of men since my father was abusive towards my mother; he would beat her and verbally abuse her for not having dinner ready when he got home from work... cfa1e77820
